Orthobiologics refer to naturally derived therapies that utilise the horse’s own biological materials to promote healing, repair damaged tissues, and reduce inflammation, particularly in tendons, ligaments, and joints. Orthobiologics can be especially beneficial in cases where corticosteroid use is contraindicated. For example, in horses with insulin resistance or those predisposed to laminitis. They also offer a practical solution for competition horses requiring treatment at multiple sites, or those in active work where medication withdrawal periods must be carefully managed.
