Ultrasonography
Ultrasonography is a key diagnostic tool at Artemis Equine Vets and is frequently used both independently and alongside other imaging modalities as part of comprehensive lameness and poor performance investigations. Our advanced, portable ultrasound equipment allows us to carry out high quality scans both at the clinic and on the road, offering flexibility and convenience without compromising on diagnostic accuracy.

This non invasive imaging technique is essential for the assessment of tendon and ligament injuries, neck, back and pelvic pathology, and abdominal or thoracic conditions. It provides real time visualisation of soft tissue structures, enabling early and accurate diagnosis of a wide range of conditions. Colour Flow Doppler can also be used during tendon assessments to evaluate blood flow within and around the injured area, providing valuable information about the healing response and guiding treatment plans.

In addition, ultrasonography plays a vital role in equine reproductive management. We routinely perform reproductive scans for pre-breeding assessments, ovulation timing, pregnancy diagnosis, artificial insemination (AI) cycles, and investigation of potential reproductive issues.

Ultrasound is also used to support more advanced procedures. We utilise it for guided liver biopsies, sacroiliac (SI) joint injections, and thoracic and cervical facet joint medication, enhancing both precision and safety. In cardiovascular evaluations, ultrasonography allows us to assess the chambers and valves of the heart.

With our experienced veterinary team and modern diagnostic equipment, we are able to deliver detailed, accurate assessments that form the foundation of effective treatment and management plans for each individual horse.
